Spring Fling Week Entertains Campus Community

Spring Fling Week, a jam-packed, five-day schedule of activities and events for the Mount Mercy community, is a time for students, faculty and staff to celebrate the signs of spring and to relax before final exams.

“The highlight of Spring Fling 2008 was definitely the many accomplishments of the student clubs and organizations that joined together in a collaborative effort to plan multiple events,” says Sarah Botkin, director of student activities and orientation. Participating student groups included M²AP Board, Gaming Club, Criminal Justice Club, Intramurals, Stangs Christian Fellowship (SCF), Outdoor and Recreation Club, Social Work Organization (SWO), and the theater department.

Spring Fling 2008 featured paint-balling at Adventure Park in Shellsburg, a visit from a hypnotist, the annual Mount Mercy Idol competition, BINGO Blowout, Let’s Make a Deal, an outdoor movie, and Rabbit Hole, a student-directed play.

“This year we saw an increase in student attendance, which is very exciting,” says Botkin. “At our anchor event — Mount Mercy Idol — more than 130 students attended. When student clubs work together to get involved, they bring student-centered events to campus with a fun, contagious spirit.”
