A look back on Homecoming on the Hill: Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend

Homecoming on the Hill: Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend kicked off October 2–3, with more than 300 alumni and countless friends and family enjoying festivities, including the annual Recognition Luncheon, a reception with the Sisters of Mercy, and an “Across the U.S.” wine tasting.

In addition to old favorites, new events for young alumni such as the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) reunion and Downtown Saturday Night, were featured in the line-up. Families had fun checking out the gear from the Mount Mercy Bookstore, as well as having their caricatures drawn by Barb Jacobs ’87. The Basile Beans coffeeshop was put to good use with a live performance by guitarist Drew Hayward ’06. Also included this year, alumni who graduated in the Honors program were recognized during a special presentation by current Honors students, which showcased the unique learning experiences students gain through the Honors program. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Honors Program, the presentation included an unveiling of a special commemorative plaque that recognizes all Honors graduates, which will be displayed at the Honors Lounge on campus. The weekend wouldn’t be complete without naming a Family of the Year, sponsored by Student Activities. The Schueller family, boasting three sisters who are the first in their generation to attend college, were honored. The family includes Jessi Schueller Schipper ’03, of Farley, Iowa, Jill Schueller Hoeger ’05, of Delhi, Iowa, and Jenna Schueller ’12, of Sherrill, Iowa. “We value the wonderful education we received while attending Mount Mercy and are extremely grateful for the path it has paved for us,” says Jill. “We believe that by attending such a prestigious college it has aided in forming us into the well rounded individuals we are today.”
